Mossel Bay- The ever-popular tourist destination, ATKV Hartenbos' first CANSA Relay for Life, took place on Saturday, 4 November 2017 with the theme of "The Power of Purple Party". The Hartenbos Seafront was enchanted in purple and everyone could show their support by participating in the various activities offered by CANSA (The Cancer Association of South Africa).
"Purple is the color we chose to drive the awareness campaign. The purple color is comprehensive and represents all types of cancer. This is our ninth annual event, so we wanted to do something new and exciting. We decided to move the opportunity to the ATKV Hartenbos Seafront and give the whole family an opportunity to participate, "says Lucinda Viljoen of CANSA Community Development.
Hartenbos Seafront CANSA Activities:
1. Purple Friday and the fun walk
Purple Friday was aimed at local stores and managers. Businesses have shown their support by decorating their stores with purple. The fun walk started at 18:00 and families were dressed in purple.
2. Bark for Life
The 'Bark For Life' project was for all the animal lovers. During this event, honor was shown to the dogs who themselves has cancer. There were even dogs and their owners who conquered the cancer battle together.
3. Cancer Survivors
A delicious dinner for cancer survivors was held at Piza-E-Vino. Everyone had a wonderful time together and they were all looking forward to the CANSA Relay for Life walk later that evening.
4. CANSA Relay For Life Walk
Teams across the community have come together to make a difference and show their support. The teams walked together. At 18:00 the walk for the cancer survivors kicked off at the ATKV Hartenbos Seafront theme park. All the cancer survivors walked around the track once and they were honored. Those who also play an essential role in the fight against cancer their caregivers.
There was also the opportunity where caregivers of the cancer patients walked around the track. "We have been part of the CANSA Relay For Life walk for the past seven years. We have a passion and it makes us part of the community. There are many people suffering and we are here to support them, "said Margaret Bhana and Connie Pietersen who are part of the Hillies walking group.
The CANSA Relay for Life was a real success and the support of the community was wonderful. At ATKV Hartenbos we give back to the community and its people.
